Laundry Room Renovation

Here's a small renovation to my neighbor's laundry room.  I installed a "Smartcore Ultra" vinyl plank floor in part of the laundry room and closet.  The closet was also redone with new hardware and fresh paint.  New baseboards and quarter-round finished the space nicely.

I also built a laundry table/storage shelf between the washer and dryer.

This live edge console table is made of a cherry slab from KJP Select Hardwoods (Ottawa, ON).  This is my second table.

Live Edge Walnut Console Table

This live edge console table is made of a walnut slab from KJP Select Hardwoods (Ottawa, ON).

I cleaned out the knots, holes and cracks, and epoxied them with EcoPoxy.  I sanded the slab starting with 80, 120, 150, 220, up to 400 grit paper.  Before applying each coat of Polymerized Tung Oil, I sanded the surfaces with 400 grit paper.  I wiped off the excess tung oil after approximately 20 minutes of letting it soak into the wood and let it dry for 24 hours.  After five coats, it looks awesome!!

New Rikon 10" Bandsaw

I just bought this Rikon 10" 10-306 Deluxe Bandsaw from Lee Valley.  Anxious to set it up and get started.  I've been waiting a long time for this!  

After owning this saw for over 2 years, I don't know how I did it without one!!  Very versatile.

Live Edge Board Serving Tray

My wife has been after me to make her a serving tray from a live edge board.  I've never attempted this before, but thought why not!  It won't cost me a fortune, so I finally gave it a try.

I chose Ambrosia Maple for the wood.  It's 23" long.  It has four coats of Tung oil from Lee Valley Tools.  The colors in the wood just pop and it looks amazing.  I added two handles, also from Lee Valley. Success!

Barn Doors

 I made a set of barn doors for Kersta's barn in Pakenham.  Each door is 8' tall and close to 5' wide.  I chose to use Pine to make the doors.  A combination of 1x6"s 1x8"s and 1x6" T&G.  The doors each have a 24"x27" window.

These doors are heavy and hard to work with due to their size and weight.  I had to build a jig to hold the doors in order to work on them.

The doors started out as carriage doors, but Kersta really wanted Dutch doors.  So I converted them into dutch doors!  Enjoy!!
